Community Health Talk – Sangere, Adamawa
Mahcare Foundation recently held a health awareness session in the Sangere community of Adamawa, focusing on menstrual hygiene and sexual health.
The health worker educated women on the dangers of unsanitary living and demonstrated the proper use of sanitary pads. She also emphasized the importance of sexual purity and highlighted that when abstinence is not possible, having one faithful partner reduces the risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as HIV, syphilis, and gonorrhea.
Participants learned how poor hygiene can cause rashes and infections, and a common myth about “toilet infections” was dispelled — infections come from bacteria and viruses, not from using toilets.
This outreach helped women gain accurate knowledge, break health myths, and adopt safer practices for a healthier community.
